Georgia: Journalists’ Association to Conduct International Conference

Media.ge, Tbilisi, 15 Dec 2008 – GenderMediaCaucasus Journalists’ Association is to conduct the fifth International Conference for Journalists. “Gender and Media, War and Peace: main dangers and its elimination is the main topic of the current event.

The conference will be held on December 16 at Kopala Hotel ethnographic hall (Address: 8, Chekhov Str, Avlabari). The presentation begins at 18:30hrs.

The topics of Tbilisi annual conferences are traditionally based on gender and media practice, feminism and journalism merging. The fifth conference is dedicated to media activities in the light of was and peace. The basis for the analysis is the recent armed conflict in Georgia.

According to the organizers the conference aims at the political comprehension of what has happened. The activities of the media sources during the conflict and afterwards, as well as the adequacy of information and gender balance is being considered.

Within the framework of the conference the exhibition of photo works by photojournalist Sasha Klimchuk, killed at Tskhinvali during the August developments, will be held as well.

In the course of Tbilisi meetings the women’s career and working conditions for female journalists, the issues related to the feminization of the profession is traditionally being discussed.

Journalists from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine and the Netherlands are to take part in the conference.

The conference is being supported by Mama Cash Foundation and the global foundation for women.
