1. Property of Hraparak Newspaper under Arrest

Last week the property belonging to “Hraparak Oratert” LLC, publisher of Hraparak newspaper, was put under arrest by the employees of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.

The reason is the publisher’s debt towards the Gind publishing house, which the last tries to return through the court. In the court of first instance of Arabkir and Nor-Nork Communities of Yerevan Gind has claimed to force “Hraparak Oratert” LLC to pay the debt of 1,200,000 AMD (about US$3200) piled up out of the publishing expenses.

The chief editor of Hraparak daily Armine Ohanyan has told the media that Hraparak’s debt towards Gind has been thrice more, this being however gradually paid off. But Gind has decided to appeal to the court. Hraparak continues to be regularly issued at Tigran Mets publishing house.

2. Kocharyan-Haykakan Zhamanak Trial Continued

On May 21 the suit brought by the family of the RA Second President Robert Kocharyan against Haykakan Zhamanak (HZH) was continued. During the trial lawyers Arpine Melikbekyan and Sargis Grigoryan, providing the Kocharyans’ interests, represented their client Levon Kocharyan’s diplomatic passport, ratified on April 30, 2008 with no visa of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As mentioned before the Kocharyans has brought an action against HZH for the last published news about Levon Kocharyan on February 6, 2009, according to which the president’s son “has made a debauch” in Dubai and been detained by local police.

During the trial lawyer Tigran Atanesyan of HZH asked the judge’s intervention to delay the court session in two months. According to A1Plus.am the reason is that Atanesyan needs a certain time to get official information on the event from the UAE.

A1Plus.am reports that HZH lawyer tries to send a written enquiry to the law enforcement bodies of the UAE via RA Ministry of Justice to get this information.

But Judge Arayik Melkumyan refused his request of intervention after the Kocharyans’ lawyers made an objection against the intervention reasoning that they have the message by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on that there hasn’t been any legal violation by Levon Kocharyan and that he hasn’t been arrested in the UAE. The message has been translated and sealed by the Consul of Armenia in Dubai Marat Melikyan.

Judge Melkumyan postponed the trial until May 26.

3. The Claim against Pakagic Daily Satisfied

On May 19 Iravunk reported that a day ago (May 18) the first instance court of Arabkir and Qanaqer-Zeytun communities satisfied Martun Ivanyan’s claim against “Agap-Ard” LLC, publisher of Pakagic daily, and forced “Agap-Ard” company to pay the plaintiff 9 million AMD (US$24 325) including also the fines and penalties.

According to Ivanyan’s lawyer his client has signed a service contract with “Agap-Ard” LLC, but the company hasn’t fulfilled its responsibilities under the contract and hasn’t paid 7 350 000 AMD (US$19 865) for the provided services.

The court hasn’t satisfied also the intervention of lifting the arrest on the property and monetary means belonging to “Agap-Ard” LLC since March 27 of this year. The chief editor of Pakagic Agapi Haykazuni considered this to be a political chase and noted she would try to obtain the sum claimed by the court for the property is released from arrest.
