E-learning in TV and Radio Reporting (Tbilisi) – First Time in Georgia

Media.ge, Tbilisi, 21 Apr 2009 – Internews Georgia in cooperation with RNTC (the Netherlands) and Media Development Center (Bulgaria) welcomes applications for a six-week e-learning course in TV and radio reporting. The e-learning (which means learning without leaving office and/or home) is combined with a face-to-face hands-on training at Internews training facility. TV and radio training groups will be each comprised of 12 journalists and will be held separately. The course for both groups will be held from May 1 to June 12, 2009.

Deadline for applications is 28 April, 2009.

The training course is being implemented within a three-year project – Georgian Initiative for the Enhancement of Broadcast Training Activities – fully supported by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of MATRA programme. The overarching goal of the project is to improve the educational and informational role of electronic media in the enhancement of civil society in Georgia by training managers, establishing a pool of local trainers and strengthening the capacity of Internews Georgia to design and deliver training courses for media professionals, and organizing a cycle of training courses in news and current affairs and topical reporting for young and mid-career professionals.

The training program and methodology was prepared by 6 local trainers with the assistance of Bulgarian and Dutch partners. The course is tailored to the Georgian reality and responds to local needs. The course will be implemented by 4 TV and 2 radio trainers from Georgia.

The course goal and structure:

The proposed e-learning course involves hands-on training as well. However, journalists will be able to participate in the course at most without leaving office and/or home which means they are to access to computers and the Internet for at least 2 hours per day. During the selected days journalists will be able to participate in hands-on training at Internews training facility. The course is free though travel and lodging expenses will not be covered.

The course is targeted at radio and television journalists with some experience in journalism. The goal is to help participants improve their professional knowledge, skills and attitudes. Total 12 radio and 12 television journalists will be selected to work in two separate groups. Finalists (24 journalists) will be obliged to participate in all 6 weeks of training with maximum 15-hour involvement (actual training) per week. Otherwise, selected journalists will not be accepted.

Requirements:
•Applicant should be currently working at a national or regional/local television and/or radio station; with some experience in journalism;
•Applicant’s home station should have regular news programs;
•Applicants should be willing to learn or improve professional skills and attitudes in TV and radio reporting; should be proactive and motivated.
