“Intercultural Interaction in Central Asia” Conference held in Astana

Astana, KazInform, 12 Aug 2008 – Today an international scientific-practical conference “InterCultural Interaction in Central Asia” takes place in Astana, Kazinform reports.

This conference is held in accordance with the plan for realization of confidence-building measures established by the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Objectives of the event – strengthening of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere in order to maintain peace and security in Central Asia and promotion of achievements and contributions of Kazakhstan into the cultural dialogue among various civilizations”, – stated RK Vice-Minister of Culture and Information, Darkhan Mynbayev, in his address to the participants and guests of the conference.

Representatives of the member-countries of CICA, deputies of RK Parliament, members of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, famous Kazakh and foreign academics and public figures took part in the conference. Among them: executive director of CICA, Zhandos Asanov, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in Kazakhstan, Absattar hadji Derbisaly, president of the public “Mukhtar Auezov” Fund, Murat Auezov and many others.

At the end of the conference, the participants will propose recommendations for activisation of the work of member-countries of CICA in the humanitarian sphere. CICA is an international regional organization, which unites 17states of the Asian continent. Its objective is strengthening of cooperation of Asian countries in order to provide stability and security in the region.

The idea of setting up this conference was initially introduced by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev at the 47th session of the UN General Assembly in October of 1992.
