Slain Kyrgyz journalist’s father asks president to name murderer

alishersaip.jpgUznews, Osh, 30 Jan 2008 – Avas Saipov, the father of Kyrgyz journalist Alisher Saipov who was shot dead in Osh in October 2007, has again written to Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and demanded that he make public the name of his son’s murderer who is known to everyone.

Avas Saipov wrote:

“Dear Mr President,
Happy New 2009! I wish you health and all the best.
Mr President, do you have children and grandchildren?

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Interior Minister and Head of the National Security Service, Members of Kyrgyzstan’s Jogorku Kenesh, Kyrgyz Ambassador to the USA Zamira Sydykova, who is a former journalist, and the Mayor of Osh,

I also wish you a happy new year.
I ask you too: do you have children and grandchildren?
Mr President, my son journalist Alisher Saipov was murdered under personal orders of Uzbek President Islam Karimov.

My son was killed by Uzbek security services jointly with Kyrgyz law-enforcement agencies. This is an indisputable fact. Uzbek President Islam Karimov has admitted that he issued orders to kill my son.

He has not answered my letter sent on 25 May 2008 and is still keeping silent. Uzbeks observe an old tradition of keeping silent when they agree.

The Kyrgyz Interior Ministry does not want to uncover the death of my son. Instead of investigating the murder it is providing ‘protection’ to murderers.

If government officials’ cats or dogs go missing, police mobilise all forces and means to find them. They will even take care about them because they will receive a reward for that.

At a news conference in November 2007, Kyrgyz Deputy Interior Minister Dmitriy Fedorov talked about Alisher’s murder.

He said: ‘There are many theories. But the motive is definitely not his professional activities.’

On 24 November 2008 I visited Bishkek for the third time in 2008. Neither the minister, no his deputy Fedorov received me.

Mr President, I am convinced that the constitution of Kyrgyzstan has been written for selected people.

I ask Zamira Sydykova, a former journalist who is now a Kyrgyz ambassador in the USA, whether she had a moral right to be present at the commemoration of my son Alisher at the Journalists Memorial in Washington. She is immoral.

Your officials are doing a disservice to you, Mr President.

Alisher was killed for speaking truth. The contractor of the murder of my son Alisher is Uzbek President Islam Karimov. Osh police know about accomplices in this crime and based on facts I have told them many times about these accomplices.

They do not want to uncover the murder of my son.

I ask you not to blacken the good and honest name of my son Alisher and not to undermine the memory of him and not to use his name for political aims.

I will not allow you to discredit the good and honest name of my son.

Mr President, I appealed to you on 24 May 2008 and told you that what you were told and what you saw were different things.

Who ordered Deputy Minister Fedorov and former Deputy Minister Turganbayev to tell lies about the murder of my son instead of uncovering the crime?

Mr President, I cannot understand why you took the investigation into the murder of my son under your personal control?

Mr President, as a Kyrgyz citizen, I used to trust you.

Sincerely yours,

Avas Saipov.”
