Media.ge, Tbilisi, 26 Jul 2008 – On July 26 the Center for Constitutional Rights office is to host another journalists’ meeting within For Freedom of Information project.
In the course of the meeting the past stage of the project will be summarized and current problems and future plans will be discussed.
The project, being implemented by the Center for Constitutional Rights and a journalistic center Discover Georgia, is funded by British and Swedish governments, with the support of Adam Smith International and UK-Georgia Professional Network (UGPN).
Within the framework of the project, journalists and anyone seeking for public information have a possibility to receive legal aid in case they face problems with obtaining public information. Legal service as well as court excise will be covered from the project budget.
For the first stage of the project four cases have been submitted. Two cases out of four pertain to the accused David Sartania having demanded to get acquainted with his own health history from the penitential department; he has been denied this right. In the course of the project implementation the aforementioned case was considered as a particular precedent in terms of human rights violation.
The third administrative complaint has been lodged against the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs, whose representatives provided the journalist with the requested information with delay. Notwithstanding the timely proceeding of the administrative complaint at the Ministry, the person responsible for providing information has not been punished; hence the regulations set by the administrative code have been misinterpreted.
The forth complaint has been lodged at the court against the Ministry of Economic Development. David Chipashvili of the Green Alternative association has been trying to obtain public information for years now.
The journalists’ meeting is scheduled to start at 14:00 at 3, Mitropane Laghidze Str, Tbilisi.
