nCa, Ashgabat, 07 Sep 2008 – The UNDP Project “Information Sharing in Turkmenistan for Sustainable Human Development” (InfoTuk) successfully conducted a two-day webmaster training late August for teachers of school computer centers run by the project in the city of Mary. Training was facilitated by the project staff.
Teachers of 10 Mary secondary schools have learned basics of web-design along with fundamentals of HTML language and mastered major techniques of graphics design and preparation of documents to be placed on web-sites. Trainees have also got a good grasp of some tools of web-sites hosting on Internet and other techniques. “I have learned many new things in the course of training. We teach computer literacy in schools but have no experience in web-site design and use of Internet. Now I can apply my webmaster knowledge in practice,” said Chariyeva Maysa, teacher of Mary’s N 20 school.
It is expected that all teachers who participated in web-design training will create web-sites for their schools in the near future. The websites will feature basic facts and information about school history, daily life and achievements, thus inspiring other schools to create their own web-sites. “We can start creating websites together with pupils now,” said Haitkuliyev Yusup, teacher of N 3 school.
The skills and knowledge gained by school teachers during training will allow for more efficient popularization of information technologies among teachers and pupils, as well as create grounds for a qualitative change in education system of Turkmenistan.
The UNDP InfoTuk Project started in 2001. The project is jointly implemented with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The project plays a key role in strengthening the capacity to use information and communication technology (ICT) at the national and local levels as means of increasing access to information and opportunities in education, science and technology in Turkmenistan.
