Azerbaijan: Government To Launch An Organ To Control Cyber Crimes

CASCFEN, Baku, 22 Jul 2008 – Azerbaijan’s government is planning to establish an organization to oversee Internet security in Azerbaijan. Communications and Information Technologies Minister Ali Abbasov told this to APA.

According to Abbasov, this organization will seek to prevent cyber crimes and supervise Internet in Azerbaijan.

“Nagorno Karabakh is shown as an independent country or as part of Armenia on the internet and in the online resources of many countries,” said Abbasov. “This organization will oversee these types of issues too. Some criminal elements have been increasing since electronic documentation was applied in the country. This has made it crucial to make changes to the Criminal Code and other laws.”

He also emphasized that the creation and functioning of this organization is reflected in the “International Convention on Cyber Crimes”, and therefore it cannot be considered as a censorship on the Internet.
