Baku, CASCFEN, Oct, 29, 2012 – The Republic of Azerbaijan which is located in South Caucasus on the shores of Caspian Sea is going to host Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2012 on November 6-9 in Baku. As was previously announced by the host country this will be 7th Meeting of the IGF.
According to the host country IGF web site “Baku has the privilege for being the next in line of prestigious venues for IGF, such as the cities the conference took place within last years. The proposed main theme of the 2012 IGF annual meeting is “Internet Governance for Sustainable Human, Economic and Social Development”.
Host country invites attendees “to enjoy the traditional Azerbaijani spirit of hospitality. Within the framework of the conference it is also planned to have the proper social program, presenting the country at its best, making sure the participants will have enough possibilities to enjoy the beautiful scene of history and modern world, arts, culture and masterpieces of national architecture”.
“Only when you take home long lasting memories of your visit, along with the productive thematic discussion in place, then we could consider our mission of the host country achieved”, – promises the hosting side.
About IGF: One of the most significant outcomes of the World Summit on Information Society, which took place in Tunis between 16 and 18 November 2005, was the creation of the Internet Governance Forum.
The roles and functions of the Forum are set out in paragraphs 72-79 of the “Tunis Agenda for the Information Society”. Briefly, its main purpose is to discuss a wide range of issues related to Internet Governance and, where appropriate, to make recommendations to the international community. The work and function of the Forum is multilateral, multi-stakeholder, democratic and transparent.
Azerbaijan has offered to host the seventh meeting of the IGF in 2011. Steadfast to this commitment, it is now proceeding with all the necessary preparations for the successful organization of such an important event.
