Media.ge, Tbilisi, 02 Oct 2008 – U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Teft presented video cameras and other necessary equipments to Georgian regional TV and radio broadcasters that suffered during Russian military intervention.
The US Embassy supported Zugdidi radio stations Atinati and Odishi+; Shida Kartli based TV companies – Trialeti (Gori), Dia (khashuri) and TV companies in Western Georgia: Ninth Wave (Poti), Egrisi (Senaki).
“The United States of America strongly supports freedom of press. We consider that regional media is very important. Media outlets were greatly destroyed during Russian military invasion. The US Embassy made the decision to support regional media. In the frames of the support we granted proper equipments and grant funds to regional media”, – declared US Ambassador to Georgia John Teft.
The US Embassy allocated 160 000 USD for supporting media outlets.
During Russian military aggression regular troops of Russia and volunteers who invaded the country with them set offices of the abovementioned broadcasters on fire, robbed the offices and took away video equipment and computer techniques. They also damaged and destroyed broadcasting equipments. Militaries took away or destroyed cameras of filming crews of certain TV companies during the process of filming.
