Baku, CASCFEN, 12.09.2012 – Discussions have been started in regard to appointment of representatives of Baku based Central Asian & Southern Caucasian Freedom of Expression Network (CASCFEN) in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. This news was delivered to media by CASCFEN Chairman Azer Hasret.
Azer Hasret said that after starting to act as an independent association CASCFEN gets proposals from the countries of the region about collaboration: “Usually we get such proposals from Turkey and Central Asian countries and this is natural. Just for quite long years we have worked especially in the countries of Central Asia thus having more and more friends. That`s why getting proposals on collaboration should be understood as not eventual”.
CASCFEN Chairman said that there is a need for discussions in regard to appeals and representatives: “To launch CASCFEN affiliates in these countries we need to solve lot of problems. And this requires quite a long time. That`s why we decided for the first phase to appoint just one person in each country as a representative. Starting from Turkey and Kyrgyzstan is not eventual too as there are needed circumstances in these countries”.
The Chairman added that this issue will be discussed in CASCFEN Board meeting scheduled for October 06, 2012. After this meeting his visit to Central Asia is expected where he will discuss the issue further.
He also noted that after these two countries CASCFEN is going to appoint representatives in Georgia and Tajikistan.

CASCFEN was launched in March 2003 in Baku. The organization is more known for its activities in Central Asian countries. As a result of its first year activities CASCFEN got International Press Institute`s Free Media Pioneer Award in 2004. Up to the 2012 CASCFEN acted as a structural unit of Baku based Journalist`s Trade Union (JuHI). On June 07, 2012 it was established as an independent freedom of expression organization and got state registration on June 29, 2012.
