Freelance Writer / Journalist / UNICEF Georgia

UNICEF Georgia, Tbilisi, 19 Mar 2009 – UNICEF Georgia is seeking to select a freelance native English-speaking feature writer/journalist to provide the following services till the end of 2009:

** Writing of human interest stories on women and children issues for UNICEF.
** Writing for the English issue of the UNICEF in Georgia newsletter.

UNICEF requirements for feature stories are as follows:

Feature story should be 500-1,500 words. Two to four typed pages (single space) word article that answers “five Ws and H” of journalism, tells human side of a development issue, has quotes from the people involved, includes people’s names and ages, describes the situation without bogging the story down in statistics, and has UNICEF link. (Detailed guidelines will be provided by UNICEF).

UNICEF pays “on acceptance” – when an article is ready for publication – meaning that it meets our standards of accuracy, completeness and writing style.

UNICEF requirements for newsletter are as follows:

** Provide features/information about pre-defined topics of UNICEF interventions in Georgia. The detailed plan will be provided by UNICEF.
** The text of the newsletter should be up to 28 pages.
** The writer will be responsible for the costs incurred during the preparation of a feature in Tbilisi. Transportation and other logistics to collect the information outside Tbilisi will be undertaken by UNICEF.

Candidates interested in writing/editing for UNICEF should:

** be native-language English writer;
** be based in Georgia in order to be familiar with local culture as well as with the political and economic situation of the country, the situation of children in Georgia and be able to attach country flavour to the story and make an inquiry or collect information and details while required;
** have experience in writing feature articles.

In view of this, we would request interested candidates to provide us with most recent CV and a motivation letter outlining the following:

** Availability and capability to perform the assignment.
** Time required for feature writing and for newsletter writing;
** Price rates for each feature story and for the newsletter;
** Submit at least three published features.

UNICEF pays by bank transfer upon receipt of the final and acceptable product.
