Kyrgyzstan: "The attack on the journalist is linked with criminals"

Fergana.ru, Bishkek, 16 Mar 2009 – On March 16, the representative of law enforcement bodies of Kyrgyzstan answered the press-conference questions, asked by the opposition forces during the meeting on March 10, 2009 between the representatives of White House (government House is called so in Kyrgyzstan – editorial note) and the delegation from political opponents.

The press-conference was attended by internal affairs minister Moldomusa Kongantiev, the representative of Public Prosecution office Uchkun Karimov, the head of Finance police service Akin Muybillaev and head of commission against corruption Sadyr Japarov.

Specifically, responding to the question on the attack on the journalist of Reporter-Bishkek independent newspaper, Syrgak Abdyldaev, the internal affairs minister Moldomusa Kongantiev noted that this case has criminal roots and it is linked to one of the publications of the injured journalist.

It is worth mentioning that on March 3, Syrgak Abdyldaev, the political observer of the Reporter-Bishkek, was assaulted; as a result, he had 21 knife injuries open fractures of hands.

Overall, the representative of law enforcement bodies answered 26 questions of opposition. All of them are related to criminal, administrative or legal affairs against political opponents of the President of Kyrgyzstan and their relatives.

Responding to more than 20 questions, the representatives of Kyrgyz authorities declared that the sons of two opposition leaders (former internal affairs minister, the coordinator of Za Spravedlivost opposition movement Alikbek Jekshenkulov and ex Prosecutor-General Azimbek Beknazarov) have been put on the wanted list.

The son of Mr. Beknazarov is wanted due to the large scale fraud. The son of Mr. Jekshenkulov, Bekkul, is wanted as the accused person for “The group hooliganism with the use of firearm”. Today, he is hiding. Meanwhile, Alikbek Jekshenkulov is placed to the pretrial detention center under national security state committee and he is accused of co-participation in the murder. According to IAM, the citizen of Turkey was shot from the pistol, registered to Mr. Jekshenkulov, on December 26, 2007 in Talas oblast of Kyrgyzstan.

Following the arrest of Mr. Jekshenkulov, on March 11 the united opposition of Kyrgyzstan made a decision not to negotiation with the government and announced the date of mass protest demonstrations, scheduled to be conducted throughout the republic on March 27, demanding early resignation of the President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
