Georgia: Kavkasia TV Web Site Hacked

Media.ge, Tbilisi, 12 Jan 2009 – On the morning of January 9 Kavkasia TV staff found their Web site at www.kavkasiatv.ge hacked. The IT technicians managed to restore the Web site in no time. According to Kavkasia TV director Nino Jangirashvili “horrible photos were posted on the Web site” with a postscript “Web site hacked.” “The Web site was hacked three weeks ago as well,” Nino Jangirashvili said.

“The Web site is being attacked through Turkish IP addresses, some believe, but I don’t think Turkish hackers would be so much interested in our Web site,” Jangirashvili reported. The TV management, she said, cannot identify the probable hackers, for having now theories. Many Georgians living abroad collect information from our Web site. “The hackers’ attack was targeted at this audience,” Jangirashvili pointed out.

The Web site is well protected, she said, therefore it’s “weird” how they manage to hack. Kavkasia TV Web site is launched on the Georgian Internet service and long distance communication provider Caucasus Online’s server.

Kavkasia TV is regarded as an oppositional channel. IT cooperates with the independent investigation studios whose investigative documentaries are not being aired by either of channels. The documentaries are posted on the Kavkasia TV Web site.
