Uznews.net, Tashkent, 29 Jul 2008 – The Administration of domain zone “uz” – the Center of Development and Introduction of Computer and Information Technologies UzInfoCom stated today that the number of active domain names in a national segment of the Internet has reached 7005.
It is necessary to note, that on the beginning of year in a national domain zone 5766 active domains were, and the gain from the beginning of year has made 21,7%. Thus, for this time 966 domain names have been removed.
National domain extension “uz” of the second level has been created in April, 1995. Till 2001 a private person owned it, but in August of the same year the administration of address authority of the Internet (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) has transferred administration of domain “uz” to German company Eurocom Equipment GmBH which represented in Uzbekistan Tomas Ltd.
And till now Tomas Ltd., which has in Uzbekistan six competitors, still remains the leader among Uzbek registrars of domain names. On its share it has 3315 (47,35%) of all domain names registered in republic.
According to Center Tomas Ltd. UzInfoCom, 80,87% of domains in Uznet are registered by residents, 18,91% by non-residents, and the origin of 0,22% of the persons who have registered in zone “uz” the domains, in general is not known. From all domains with an “uz” 2456 (35,06%) have a hosting abroad, 4457 domains (63%) are registered by legal bodies, 2543 (37%) by physical persons.
